Screening Night: Guest Judges
Screening Night is a night where all our student and staff film makers, sponsors, family and friends watch the films together. All film makers will be recognized for their participation in our 2nd Annual Film Festival.
During Screening Night films will be scored in the following areas:
- Content & Organization
- Creativity
- Technical Quality
- Editing
There are 5 veld groups this year. There will be a winner from each leveled group and then a best of show! The finalist will be announced the following week.

Ish Abdus-Saboor is the web content and social media manager for the R2 District Office. She will tell you that getting into schools as often as possible and seeing the amazing learning activities created by teachers is the best part of her job. Before joining the Richland Two family in 2008, she worked as a reporter for The State and The Greenville News newspapers. When she isn't glued to her iPhone or laptop, she enjoys a good book, cooking and trying out ideas from her Pinterest boards. She is married and has one toddler and a bonus child daughter (step daughter).
Ashley
Bruton is the Communications Manager for Strategic Partnerships for Richland
Two. He will tell you that working with great teachers and fantastic students
is the best part of his job. Before joining the Richland Two family in 2006, he
served as a Peace Corps Volunteer teaching English at a high school in Poland,
worked as reporter with the Horry Independent and earned his master's degree
from the University of South Carolina. When he's not working, Ashley enjoys
cooking, reading, playing video games and spending time with his wife and two
children.
Ron Hagell
is a media artist and lecturer; he has had careers in television (PBS and
Lifetime) and as an Army officer in Vietnam. Most recently he has been teaching
media practice in Germany and at Royal Holloway - University of London, the
Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and privately in Columbia, SC. Current
courses include screenwriting (with the Tapp’s Arts Center), filmmaking, acting
(with Trustus) and media art. Ron’s art practice is in photography and film
with installations featuring projections, prints and film centered on topics
related to Diasporas, women in society and culture as well as a variety of
narratives themes and contemporary dance. He has a Master of Fine Arts from
Columbia University (NYC) and studied theater, art and photography at RISD, UNC
and American University (DC).
Shirley
Smith has been an educator for more than 30 years. She began her career as a
elementary teacher, subsequently taught at the middle school and university
levels before moving to the SCDOE, where she administered several federal and
state programs including the Eisenhower Program for Mathematics and Science and
the SC Critical Teaching Needs Program for reading and computers. She has
served as the technology integration consultant for a USC research team
studying a 1:1 implementation in a SC Midlands school district and is a
Fulbright Specialist awardee in the area of technology integration. She has
also served as a technology specialist for the SC STEM Centers, distance
learning director at Roper Mountain Science Center (RMSC), and as a NASA
Digital Media Lab Fellow. Prior to the RMSC position, as the Director of
Curriculum for SERC (Satellite Education Resource Center), a national
consortium of public television stations and departments of education, she
created and produced many technology based resources for teachers and students
including online courses, teleconferences, video modules, and virtual field
trips. She has a Ph.D. in Education from the University of South
Carolina.Currently, she partners with Ron Hagell to produce short films that
have been entered into film festivals including Expecting Goodness and Jasper.
